Job Summary
Our client who is in shipping Service Industry is seeking to recruit for a HR Manager who will be responsible for managing all aspects of human resources functions within the organization. This role will also involve developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and procedures to support the company’s objectives, overseeing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and ensuring compliance with local labor laws and industry-specific regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Planning:
Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the company’s business goals in the Kenyan shipping industry.
Forecast staffing needs, plan for talent acquisition, retention, and development.
Address HR challenges and opportunities specific to the shipping sector in Kenya.
Recruitment and Onboarding:
Lead the recruitment process for all levels of employees, including seafarers and shore-based staff.
Collaborate with hiring managers to define job requirements and create job descriptions.
Conduct interviews, evaluate candidates, and make hiring recommendations.
Ensure a smooth onboarding process for new employees in compliance with Kenyan labor laws.
Employee Relations:
Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Manage employee inquiries, conflicts, and grievances.
Conduct investigations as necessary and propose appropriate resolutions.
Ensure strict compliance with Kenyan labor laws and industry regulations.
Performance Management:
Establish and implement performance appraisal processes.
Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance improvement.
Assist in developing and tracking performance goals and objectives.
Oversee disciplinary actions when needed.
Training and Development:
Identify training needs and coordinate employee development programs.
Collaborate with department heads to create comprehensive training plans.
Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and make adjustments as required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Administer compensation and benefits programs in accordance with Kenyan industry standards.
Ensure competitive compensation packages within the Kenyan shipping industry.
Stay updated on compensation and benefits trends specific to Kenya.
Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with local labor laws, including Kenyan labor regulations and maritime requirements.
Maintain accurate HR records and documentation.
Prepare and submit reports as required by Kenyan authorities.
HR Administration:
Manage the HR team and departmental budgets.
Oversee the maintenance of HRIS (Human Resources Information System) software.
Continuously assess and enhance HR processes and procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Proven experience as an HR Manager in the Kenyan shipping or maritime industry.
In-depth knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and regulations applicable to the shipping sector.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Exceptional problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Proficiency in HRIS software.
Certification as a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Kenya is advantageous.
