Project Background
WorldFish has four data sets collected in Zambia and Malawi.
Data set 1**:** WorldFish in collaboration with Mississippi State University (MSU) implemented the “FishFirst! Zambia: Research for Development and Scaling Staple-Fish Products for Enhanced Nutrition in the First 1,000 Days of Life” project, which aimed to increase the quality/quantity of fish benefitting nutrition and food security in Zambia, especially for women of reproductive age (WRA; ages 15-49 years) and children in the first 1,000 days of life (
Data set 2**:** Worldfish collected qualitative and quantitative data on gendered impacts of Covid19 on cross border fish traders in Malawi and Zambia. The study addressed the following questions: How has COVID-19 and measures put in place to control the pandemic impacted men and women cross-border fish traders in Zambia and Malawi? How have impacts and responses been mediated by gender? What lessons emerge for investments to enable gender equality, women’s empowerment and resilient value chains?
Data set 3: WorldFish collected baseline data in Malawi for the inclusive business and entrepreneurial models for smallholder fish farmers and poor value chain actors’, project. The baseline aimed to provide baseline indicators and also to input into the endline studies to assess the impact of effectiveness of the IBEMS on smallholder and aquapreneur’s profitability, productivity, knowledge, attitudes and practices.
Data set 4**:** WorldFish conducted a study to understand the impact of WorldFish interventions on gender in climate hotspots in Zambia. The study asked the following questions: 1 How have WorldFish interventions enhanced gender-equal access and control over resources, technology, and information among smallholder farmers? 2) In what ways have WorldFish interventions encouraged more women’s participation in aquaculture (smallholder productivity) in the intervention areas? 3) How have WorldFish projects impacted gender equality and women’s empowerment? 4) How have WorldFish interventions promoted climate resilience and productivity of smallholders (especially women)?
