The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by proving administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org).
This internship is in Host Country Services Unit (HCSU) of Central Support Services, Division of Administrative Services, United Nations Office at Nairobi.
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) Host Country Services Unit, Team Assistant internship is for six (6) months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, HCSU, the intern will:
Capture information from hard copies to electronic system, i.e., excel, access & SharePoint ensure that the information that is captured is accurate and precise.
Consistently check work for accuracy and completeness.
Complete forms and edit current information.
Compare the entered information with the source to identify errors and correct them.
Update existing data in the electronic system. Separate information into different sections to categorize and identify certain characteristics.
Assist in developing templates for Standard Operating Procedures for the Unit.
Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports using MS Excel and Power BI.
Assist in managing all aspects of producing visual information for print and online uses, including the design, creation, and preparation of support visuals, infographics, charts, graphs.
Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel).
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred areas of studies:
International Business, Communication or any other related studies.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Proficiency in standard office applications software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
Good understanding of data visualization software (e.g. Power BI) is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
