Org. Setting and Reporting

These positions are located in the Safety and Security Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Aweil, Juba, and Yei. The incumbent work under the overall guidance and supervision of Safety and Security Officer or his/her designate.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Field Security Assistant at this level will be responsible for the following duties:

• Alert for any potential or actual breaches of security and any disturbances or unusual activity and reports these immediately;

• Assist in liaison duties as applicable with the local police, military, local administration etc;

• Assist in reviewing the logistics requirements and other related actions required for the preparation of training courses, drills, and other security exercises.

• Assist to prepare daily and weekly work schedules and various periodic reports.

• Assist to provide information and direction to all personnel associated with the Organization.

• Conduct investigations of incidents involving UN personnel and assets.

• Ensure maintenance and operation of equipment issued to the security section/assigned unit as applicable;

• Assist the Guard Force Management unit in the implement guidance of Access Controls policy and protocol;

• Ensure proper function of UNID, equipment, card readers, ON Pass system, and reports any malfunctioning.

• In the event of emergencies and incidents, alerts relevant units and dispatch security personnel to the site under the direction of the supervisor;

• Maintains logs and rosters and initiates chronological logs of events during emergency situations;

• Prepare daily and weekly work schedule and various periodic reports;

• Provide inputs for the performance evaluation of the shift supervisors.

• Provide translation services to units within the Security Section as may be required.

• Provide information and directions to all persons associated with the organization;

• Assist in developing security contingency plans, area security plans, RSMs and monitoring compliance.

• Report any potential or actual breach of security and any disturbance or unusual activity.

• Perform any other duties as required.

    [Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Job – Specific Qualification

  • Have a valid driving license is required
  • Relevant training in security, police or military is desirable.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in security operations or similar entities within a military, police or security organization is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to zero for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
  • At least one experience working with UN/NGO or other international bodies is required.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel and Powerpoint is required.
  • Experience working with or coordinating closely with local authorities and law enforcement agencies is desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other languages spoken in South Sudan is an advantage.
