Housing Finance Bank Unix Systems Officer Jobs in Uganda
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for setting up and maintaining the bank’s UNIX environment on all platforms. The officer is responsible for analyzing capacity usage, resolving problems, providing reports, and providing IT infrastructure advisory setup concepts.
Key Result Areas
• Installs, configures, and maintains UNIX operating systems in line with the Bank’s operating policies and procedures.
• Monitors and maintains resources of the UNIX server environment. This is for the production and disaster recovery site.
• Actively and effectively resolves any UNIX OS issues with the support of service providers, ensuring that the IT environment is operating according to set standards for any application.
• Provide resource utilization reports and make budget requirements of any upgrades.
• Manage IT security Access rights to all UNIX and Windows operating systems.
• Support the application teams in generating and managing the Bank’s SSL Certificates on all servers.
• Implement and fix any other IT infrastructure-related issues.
• Implement approved changes control and customizations in the systems.
• Participate in the delivery of core applications training.
• Infrastructure capacity planning and management
• Provide out-of-hours support in response to incidents on an on-call rota basis.
• Support, configuration, planning, documentation, and projects for VMware and Oracle VM, OVM, and KVM virtual environment
Specifications
Education & Training
• Bachelor of Computer Science / Information Technology / Computer Engineering / Electrical and Electronic Engineering or its equivalent
• Open-Source Certified System Administrator level 1 & 2
• Red Hat / Solaris certified Systems Administrator
• ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service management
• CCNA
• VMware certification or equivalent
Skills & Experience
• Hands-on experience with enterprise-class server software and hardware.
• Experience of 2-4 years in a related field
• Operational knowledge of Oracle and MySQL.
• Familiarity with
configuration management tools
• Ability to use professional knowledge to analyse information and resolve problems.
• Microsoft Windows / Unix server administration
• Computer Hardware Repair and maintenance
• Experience in WAN/LAN Networking skills
• Microsoft Windows/Unix Desktop OS installation, troubleshooting and administration.
• Service Desk Support
• IT infrastructure-related experience is an added advantage.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence; speak clearly to third parties and employees.
