Equity Bank Kenya Legal Manager-Insurance Jobs
Position Overview:
The Legal Manager will serve as a legal adviser to the insurance subsidiaries of Equity Group Holdings Plc and will report to the Group Head of Legal-Commercial.
You will be expected to provide legal advice and guidance to facilitate and limit exposure of the Group’s insurance business interests which are spread across life assurance, general insurance and bancassurance. You will also be expected to work closely with other members of the Group Legal Function to provide general legal guidance and advice to the organisation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Managing, drafting, negotiating, reviewing and closing various legal contracts including Client Policy Documents
Leading the design and delivery of the regulatory strategy and engagements with the Insurance Regulatory Authority including licensing and compliance.
Preparing legal opinions and advice to the insurance business and entities
Managing, drafting and reviewing various internal policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws and other legal documents for the business
Setting the organisation’s internal governance policies
Leading the legal strategy in response to any claims, disputes and active or threatened litigation.
Advising the business on any new laws, regulations, policies or relevant trends
Keeping a record of all legal documents and proceedings for the company
Handling statutory filings other statutory requirements
Communicating with external parties (regulators, external counsel, clients, stakeholders etc)
Anticipating issues and evaluating risks and opportunities to the organisation considering the evolving regulatory and commercial environment
Preserving and maintaining accurate and systemised legal records
Managing and protecting the organisation’s intellectual property including registrations.
Performing any job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Laws Degree from any recognised University
Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law
8-10 years legal experience with experience in the insurance sector
Qualified as an Advocate in Kenya for minimum 8 years
Any Post Graduate Qualification in Insurance will be an added advantage.
Masters degree in Law will be an added advantage.
