Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort, growing to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 70 countries
In Africa, Habitat for Humanity’s strategy provides an opportunity to address the housing deficit in Africa, through the agency of Africans, by taking a coordinated approach to helping people remove the barriers standing between them and adequate housing across the continent’s distinct contexts. We were guided and informed by Habitat’s three core values: courage, humility and accountability.
Need for a Digital Media Consultant
In April 2022, the Africa Area Office launched the Africa Strategic Framework. In line with this, most countries are in the process of finalizing their country strategies with some ready for execution. These strategies will be supported by country specific communications strategies and plans which include the use of digital media.
Several countries will be celebrating their anniversaries in 2024, presenting an opportunity to share our stories of impact, network and engage on digital platforms.
We are revitalizing our operations in some of the countries including Tanzania and South Africa. As part of this revitalization, we need to strengthen our digital communications and build the capacity of countries to utilize the digital space.
As part of our strategy to strengthen our influencing across various spaces including with regional bodies such as the Africa Union, we will be engaging in content gathering and storytelling – this will require strategic use of digital and social media platforms
Communications will be key in supporting all the initiatives and activities mentioned above including branding and visibility; storytelling; networking and partnerships.
Roles and responsibilities
The Digital Communications Consultant will report to the Africa Communications Director. This role will be performed on a contract basis, from December 2023 until December 2024, to ensure effective support to countries in execution of the digital and content strategy.
