Virtus Global Security In-House Legal Counsel Jobs in Uganda
Job Summary:
An experienced and highly skilled Lawyer. As an In-House Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice and guidance to the organisation on a wide range of legal matters. You will be responsible for ensuring that the company’s operations and decisions are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent legal knowledge, analytical thinking, and communication skills to effectively address legal issues and support business objectives.
Responsibilities:
• Provide legal advice and guidance to various departments within the organisation on matters such as contracts, intellectual property, employment law, regulatory compliance, and other legal issues.
• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect the company’s interests and mitigate legal risks.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations that could impact the company’s operations and advise accordingly.
• Assist in the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary on specialised legal matters.
• Conduct legal research to support business decisions and provide recommendations based on findings.
• Assist in managing disputes and litigation, working towards cost-effective and timely resolutions.
• Provide legal training to company employees to enhance their understanding of legal issues and compliance requirements.
• Ensure that the company’s activities and operations are conducted in accordance with ethical standards and within the legal parameters.
• Work closely with external counsel in the execution of your duties and responsibilities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Contract Management: Timely review and negotiation of contracts with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Risk Mitigation: Identification of potential legal risks and implementation of
strategies to minimise those risks, resulting in reduced legal disputes.
• Compliance Adherence: Ensuring the company’s compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Response Time: Prompt and effective response to legal inquiries and requests from internal stakeholders.
• Litigation Management: Efficient management and resolution of legal disputes and litigation matters.
• Legal Research: Consistently providing well-researched legal opinions and recommendations to support business decisions.
• Policy and Procedure Development: Contribution to the development and enhancement of legal policies and procedures.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with various departments and provide actionable legal advice that aligns with business goals.
• Training and Education: Successful implementation of legal training programs to enhance legal awareness among employees.
Qualifications:
• Law Degree from an accredited law school.
• Active licence to practise law in Uganda.
• At least 3 Years of experience as a practising attorney with strong understanding of the Laws of Uganda especially the Commercial and Civil aspects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
