Org. Setting and Reporting
These positions are located in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and based in Mogadishu. The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programmes and activities of the United Nations System.
Under the overall management of the Principal Security Adviser of UNDSS Integrated Security Workforce, Somalia, the incumbents will report to the Chief Security Officer through the Close Protection Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Close Protection Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Conducts and coordinates personal protection operations for the designated official when on duty.
Remains within the proximity of the principal at all times.
Remains vigilant and alert in case of any threat to the protected person and acts accordingly.
Conducts all personal protection security operations as outlined in the UN personal protection management guidelines.
Coordinates all activities with relevant parties to include the Security Operations Unit and other appropriate security organisations, as required.
Whenever necessary, supervises drivers attached to the Close Protection Unit in the performance of their assigned duties.
Operates all personal protection equipment and ensures equipment readiness.
Carries all issued equipment while on duty.
Conducts training sessions on personal protection subjects.
Performs other duties, as assigned.

Education
High School diploma or an equivalent diploma is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Technical training in military or police procedures as well as training in close protection, self-defense and security techniques is required.
Work Experience
At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in close protection with a local, national, private or international security organization is required.
Experience working in close protection in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written is required.
