Purpose of the Role

The Surgeon will be responsible for the surgical and obstetric areas and will have a role of technical advisor to the hospital’s Medical Director.

Key Duties

  • Carry out clinical activities, with special reference to surgical and obstretic emergencies/urgencies
  • Contribute to on-the-job training activities and formal training
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director in the supervision and management of hospital staff
  • Ensure equipment and drugs availability taking into account the funds need and availability
  • Support the Medical Director in improving the information system quality, collaborating in hospital data collection and analysis
  • Support in strengthening the referral system and the ambulance service
  • Assist the Medical Director in organizing clinical services
  • Collaborate in promoting access to and use of hospital services, in particular with regard to obstetric emergencies

    Requirements

  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery
  • Specialization in Surgery, with experience in surgery and obstetrics
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Previous professional experience at hospital level in fragile/low-resources settings
  • Previous experience in hospital management and coordination
