Job Description:

Demonstrate ability to function in all Laboratory sections and produce accurate and timely Laboratory tests results useful in diagnosing, monitoring, treating and preventing diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and acknowledge samples as per the approved standard operating procedures.
  • Recruit and draw blood donors as per standard operating procedure.
  • Maintain work area clean, well-organized and ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Operate, calibrate and/or maintain all equipment in assigned workstation and report malfunction to Lab Manager or designee.
  • Perform internal and external quality controls, verify acceptability of results and document.
  • Analyze samples as per standard operating procedures and report results.
  • Report appropriately all results with the status of ‘stat’, ’urgent’, or ‘timed specimen’.
  • Review and stock work station with reagents and supplies for testing up to the next day.
  • Analyze Laboratory findings to check for accuracy and authorize as assigned.
  • Hand over written report to in-coming staff before leaving work section.
  • Label all reagents, controls, materials and storage containers legibly according to policy.
  • Store specimens in acceptable temperature and discard specimens that exceed retention time.
  • Liaise and consult with section head for the assigned section on daily operation.
  • Guide new staff and students assigned to your section.
  • Fill out any occurrence in your work section and report to quality officer.
  • Ensure transfusion incidence is filled during your shift and report to Hemovigilance officer.
  • Fill out any safety violation in your work station and report to safety officer.
  • Read and sign all Standard Operating Procedures and the overall Laboratory policies.
  • Perform any other duty assigned.

    Qualifications & Experience

  • Higher National Diploma or above in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
  • Training in blood transfusion sciences
  • Experience in GCLP and ISO 15189 Implementation
  • 5 years experience in a busy laboratory,
  • Registration in KMLTTB with valid licence
