Position Summary:

The Program Director will play a crucial role in overseeing the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of landscape restoration projects and carbon projects across various regions in Kenya. This senior position will require dynamic leadership, exceptional project management skills, and a deep commitment to community engagement and environmental conservation.

Reporting directly to the Country Director, the Program Director will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of Eden’s mission in Kenya, with a focus on restoring and protecting ecosystems, enhancing community livelihoods, and fostering sustainable development.

This role requires a proactive attitude toward management and collaboration, and a willingness to travel.

This position sits within the Country Office, and reports to the Country Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with Eden’s global objectives and local context to maximize impact.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure timely and effective delivery of landscape restoration projects across designated regions in Kenya.
  • Lead efforts to engage with local communities and stakeholders to build trust, foster collaboration, and ensure their meaningful participation in project planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and implement robust monitoring and evaluation systems to track project progress, measure impact, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support the Country Director in cultivating and maintaining strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, community-based organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight of landscape restoration projects, including Afforestation, Reforestation, and REDD+ initiatives across key regions in Kenya.

    Experience, Education, and Additional Qualifications:

  • Masters’s Degree or higher in Environmental or Social Sciences, Evaluation, Project Management, or relevant international development field.
  • Seven or more years of relevant experience in hands-on forest restoration projects, program management, preferably in environmental conservation and sustainable development, or community engagement.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects in developing country contexts.
  • Strong understanding of landscape restoration principles, including ARR and REDD+
  • Working knowledge of running a carbon project from initial stages to completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, inclusion, and social justice.
  • Fluency in English required, proficiency in Swahili or other local languages preferred.
  • Experience working in Kenya or East Africa strongly preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the country.
