Planned Parenthood Communications Intern Jobs in Kenya
For more than 50 years, Planned Parenthood Federation of America has worked with partner organizations in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in our partners’ countries.
Planned Parenthood Global (PP Global), the international arm of PPFA, works in collaboration with more than 80 organizations across nine countries to strengthen local movements to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, backing brave actors, policies, and movements that center young people and spark and sustain progress at the leading edge of the SRHR movement.
We provide flexible funding, technical assistance, and strategic counsel for local allies in the movement for all SRHR — and connect them globally.
The Communications Intern will report to the Manager of Advocacy for the East Africa Region, based at the Africa Regional Office (ARO) of Planned Parenthood Global.
The East Africa Advocacy program at Planned Parenthood Global is dedicated to sexual and reproductive justice within the East Africa Community and its sub-region, working strategically and collaboratively to emphasize mutual strengths as well as capacity-building, to foster contributions that advance SRHR within the region, harnessing the collective power of local partners and collaborators that we work with, to drive transformative and sustainable change.
Purpose:
The Communications Internship will be situated under the Advocacy Program -where the intern will play a pivotal role in supporting the management and curation of a comprehensive information repository, assisting in the strategic planning of related meetings, and contributing their expertise to various communication initiatives as undertaken.

Engagement:
While the role is predominantly communications, the intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Advocacy Program to support interconnected initiatives that strategically define and amplify our brand and voice.
Delivery:
Information Repository Management:
Organize and maintain a centralized digital repository for communication assets related to the program, including images, documents, reports, meeting minutes, publications, media reports, and multimedia files.
Regularly update and expand the repository to capture emerging trends, best practices, and success stories in the field of advocacy and opposition mitigation.
Quality Assurance:
Enforce stringent version control measures to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of information within the repository.
Conduct regular quality assurance checks to eliminate redundancies, inaccuracies, or outdated content, maintaining a repository that is a trusted and efficient resource.
User-Friendly Filing:
Collaborate with team members to identify and implement a user-friendly filing structure, ensuring that information is intuitively organized and easily accessible.
Introduce innovative tools or features to enhance the user experience and streamline information retrieval processes.
Meeting Planning Support:
Engage in comprehensive collaboration with the team to meticulously plan and execute a spectrum of meetings, workshops, and events.
Apply meticulous attention to detail in coordinating all logistical aspects of meetings, from venue booking to transportation arrangements, to guarantee a smooth and efficient execution.
Proactively identify potential challenges and devise preemptive solutions to enhance the overall efficiency of the planning process.
Contribute thoughtful insights and strategic input during the planning phase, ensuring that meetings align with overarching program goals and objectives.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to determine optimal timing, location, and thematic content for each event.
Take charge of preparing comprehensive meeting materials, meticulously crafting agendas, and developing impactful presentations that resonate with the objectives of each meeting.
Ensure that all materials are not only informative but also align with the overarching messaging and communication strategies of the program.
Training and Capacity Building:
Conduct training sessions for team members on effective utilization of the repository, emphasizing best practices, advanced search techniques, and collaborative functionalities.
Continuous Improvement:
Proactively identify areas for improvement within the information management processes and propose innovative solutions to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the repository.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Undergraduate degree holder in the fields of Communications and or Public Relations from a reputable institution of higher learning.
Demonstrated work experience in a PR agency, or NGO will be an added advantage.
Familiarity and experience with Google Suites will be an added advantage.

An understanding of SRHR- Express a deep understanding of and passion for SRHR, coupled with an awareness of its intersectionality with various social issues, reflecting a commitment to inclusive advocacy.
Possess a comprehensive grasp of the media ecosystem in Kenya and the wider region, showcasing a keen awareness of trends, preferences, and dynamics within the media landscape.
Showcase a natural talent for crafting captivating human interest stories that resonate emotionally, engaging diverse audiences.
Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Demonstrate knowledge of social media analytics tools, utilizing data-driven insights to optimize communication strategies across various platforms.
Ability to analyze information and organize it into consumable pieces in various formats- Display the ability to analyze information critically and organize it into easily consumable pieces across various formats, tailoring content for diverse audiences.
Demonstrate the ability to work both independently, taking initiative in tasks, and collaboratively as a valuable member of a dynamic team
Ability to synthesize information and generate persuasive and clear verbal and written communications.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with a keen attention to detail.
Self-directed and able to anticipate, prioritize, and manage tasks, exhibiting a high level of dependability.
Must demonstrate good interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a diverse workforce, and sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural differences.
Travel: Ability to travel locally, a minimum of 20% of the time.
