Pollicy Research Fellow (Francophone) and Anglophone Jobs in Uganda

The research fellows will work with the research team to identify and challenge injustices emerging from new technologies, such as the restriction of women’s access and use of tech platforms, and identify solutions that advance social, political, and economic rights, which could include developing a final body of research, collaborating with the team and or conducting skilling training. The research fellows will also be mentored on research skills. The Francophone fellow must be fluent in English and French.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create and test survey instruments
  • Oversee translation into local languages.
  • Conduct secondary research on topics related to our work with the assistance of the research team in order to inform our reach and creative content development.
  • Conduct research (in English and other desirable language E.g French) on thematic areas related to digital inclusion, digital resilience and digital rights, including literature reviews, Surveys, Key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Participate in data cleaning, transcription and analysis and report writing where called upon.
  • Work with the supervisor to prepare and share research findings at convenings, both in-person and in online spaces.
  • Attend training on key data skills such as research methodologies, mobile data collection, data analysis, data visualizations and any other training in the department and the entire organization.
  • Work in collaboration with other departments at Pollicy on any allocated tasks by the supervisor.
  • Establish relationships and partnerships with local community organizations that are aligned with the Pollicy focus areas of work in research, data, and civic technology.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor; and Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.

    Skills and Experience required

  • Should possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Social sciences, Social Work and Administration, Community Psychology, Economics and Statistics, Education, Development studies, or any other related fields.
  • Should have 2-3 years’ experience in social research using both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Should have experience and skills in conducting surveys and using computers, phones and other mobile data collection apps like Kobo Collect.
  • Should have computer proficiency; MS Word applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Should be able to communicate (listening, writing, reading, speaking) in English
  • Experience in data or records management will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research, and transcription of data is desirable.
  • Previous work with women/feminist organizations is an added advantage.
