If we all agree politicians generally try to screw us, why don’t we typically vote for the least unified political parties?

Because we prefer how our party screws us compared to how the other party will screw us.

American politics is inverted.

We used to vote for the guy we wanted to win.

Now a lot of us don’t have someone we want to win. We just have people we want to lose and vote against them.

Joe Biden is a great example. He was not exciting.

Before the primaries how many people really wanted him to be president. How many Democrats favored him over all the other democrats? Not a ton.

But boring Biden can beat Trump because people turn out, not because they like Biden but because they really wanted Trump out of office.
