How do you tell if somebody is intelligent without telling them they are intelligent?

Ask them a question about a problem that you have. The ones who answer immediately with a prideful tone are the ones that have a bigger ego than intellect. The ones who take time and even telling you, I need to think about it, I’ll tell when I have an answer are the ones that are smart.
