How do you know if you are following a religion because you believe in it or because you were born into it?

I was born into a catholic family, didn’t believe any of it and just moved on with life.

My wife was born into a Jehovah Witness family, didn’t believe in any of it and moved on with life.

Really it’s what YOU think. Do you believe in it or is it more of a “well I don’t want to upset my family so I guess I’ll go to church” kinda thing?
