How can one say “I’m just working here to pay my bills” without actually sounding like it?

Honestly? You can’t. Any variation of that phrase comes off to employers as, “I don’t care about my job!”

You’re better off just lying and saying that you “are passionate about the company’s values” or some other shit like everyone else does. Don’t worry – no one else actually means it, either.
