Tell your gynecologist about your symptoms and ask for some further exams (ultrasounds, blood tests, etc.) in order to rule out any medical conditions that might be causing your issues. Some solutions might indeed be hormonal birth control, but it’s best to check out all options. Menstrual cups are a great solution for sports activities, but in your case, your experience with tampons is worth mentioning to a doctor. Also side effects vary greatly from person to person, some feel worse, while others better while being on birth control. Different pills/dosages have different effects also, it might take some trial-and-error to find out the best for you. I cannot speak from experience since I’ve never taken hormones, but I’ve had my share of gynecological issues. Best wishes.
