has “pick me girls” commentary become a new form of misogyny?

has-“pick-me-girls”-commentary-become-a-new-form-of-misogyny?

EDIT: wait actually the term I’m looking for might be “not like other girls” and not pick me?? Not sure if important distinction but ?

genuinely asking for opinions here. I understood poking fun at women who posted obvious attention grabs, such as “I’m not like other girls my age, I love to cook and clean” etc etc. but lately, sometimes it feels like it’s verging into misogyny; the OP won’t even be attempting to be shady to other women or disrespectful, yet people will pile on.

it just feels like it’s a lot to see a post of a woman doing something and hundreds of comments picking on them. it feels regressive to me, especially when it’s a non-celebrity and just some girl’s IG or Tiktok. like idk, let girls live!!! the internet has everyone under such a microscope and I feel like everyone, especially girls – young teens, have no room to explore their personalities without being ridiculed.

curious if other people are noticing this pattern or I’m being sensitive. left some subreddits due to this recently – esp because I’m not even sure of the female:male ratios in those communities. (Men poking fun at women for being pick mes? Ehhh no thanks).
