Job Description
AMI is seeking a talented and experienced impact and evaluation specialist to join our team to support us in demonstrating the impact of our activities with entrepreneurs and managers across the continent as a core strategic imperitive for our business. The Senior Impact Manager must be a senior, strategic leader who is passionate about skills and enterprise development as a way to transform Africa, with an understanding of the continent’s SME support ecosystem.
We are looking for an individual who can go beyond logframe definition and measurement, to developing an impact measurement strategy that further establishes AMI as a leader in evidence-backed skills development in Africa.
The successful candidate will report to the Product Operations Manager as part of our core product team, also working closely with the Chief Product Officer and our Impact Partnerships team (including direct responsibilities to the Managing Director, AMI Impact) to provide the data and insights needed to secure new strategic partnerships that expand our work with SMEs, entrepreneurs and youth across Africa. S/he will also be responsible for supporting the leadership team and crafting, updating and monitoring AMI’s impact strategy.
The Senior Impact Manager will be part of a dynamic international team and will be based in Nairobi.
Key Responsibilities
Impact measurement and reporting:
Continue to develop impact measurement and management as a competitive advantage for AMI, differentiating us within the sector
Manage and report on AMI’s theory of change and impact frameworks and co-defining critical organisational measures of success.
Manage, improve and embed internal MEL systems, processes and tools for measuring impact and evaluating outcomes of our programmes and initiatives, in collaboration with our M&E and product teams.
Take ownership of and co-ordinate all quantitative and qualitative data collection with support from the M&E Manager and Product Operations team.
Oversee, standardise and systematise the regular data collation, analysis, and report creation for both internal and external stakeholders, including funders.
Develop and lead the creation of Impact measurement frameworks for new funding proposals.
Lead the creation of our Annual Impact Report, synthesising key insights and metrics for compelling external communication.
Support an experienced business development team to articulate desired impact in proposals, and develop compelling theories of change in order to secure new opportunities for AMI to expand our reach and positively affect livelihoods across Africa
Research and Learning Support:
Work with AMI’s research, data and product teams to support large research projects to rigorously test, refine, and deepen knowledge of AMI’s learning model including deep segmentation, targeted reporting and causal analysis.
Rigorously test and refine AMI’s learning model, ensuring continuous improvement processes are embedded.
Work with the Partnerships team to identify and advise on how our impact measurement can be used as a differentiator to capture new deals and opportunities.
Stay up to date with relevant research and new impact, monitoring and evaluation methods, as well as understanding trends and thematics relevant to our organisational impact.
Data Management and Systems:
Drive the strategic use of programme data to drive internal improvement and decision-making processes.
Support the Product and Learning Design teams to build MEL plans, outcomes frameworks for our core products, metrics of success, and surveys for programmes.
Assist in building MEL data systems, including scoping input to data warehouse initiatives.
Support the Implementation and Product teams with collection strategies to enhance response rates, as well as to interpret data -and manage data compliance.
Team Management:
Provide mentorship and supervision to the M&E team, guiding their core deliverables and KPIs
Qualifications and Skills:
Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. Data Science, Business, Economics, Social Sciences, or related discipline).
Proven experience in impact measurement, monitoring, and evaluation in the context of international development or a related field. Experience and knowledge of SME development/support in Africa would be ideal.
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with experience bringing together qualitative and quantitative data.
Ability to identify actionable insights and make recommendations.
Exceptional project management and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
Familiarity with data management systems and business intelligence tools.
Proactive and results-driven mindset with a commitment to excellence.
