The Role

The postholder is expected to undertake the teaching of ICT and Computing at The Banda School; to promote genuine interest and enthusiasm in the subject; and to aim for a high standard of achievement for all pupils within the school. He/she should demonstrate energetic and passionate subject expertise at the highest level, driving forward innovation in the subject and leading

the teaching and development of the curriculum.

The postholder is responsible to the Headmaster to ensure effective management of all matters regarding ICT and Computing across the whole school, leading the development of the subject and ensuring the progress of all pupils throughout the school.

Responsibilities associated with the post:

• Enthuse all pupils, staff and parents in the use of Digital Learning and technology more generally;

• Liaise closely with the Deputy Head (Academic) and Heads of Department to ensure the delivery of cutting-edge technology in their respective areas;

• Liaise closely with the ICT Manager to ensure the highest quality hardware and software is available in all computing suites and teaching

spaces;

• Champion the use of technology for learning and teaching;

• Be a lead user and champion of Engage, leading on development and maximisation of its extensive use and impact;

• Keep abreast of digital learning developments, advising the Senior Leadership Team of emerging technologies;

• Establish and investigate ways of incorporating Artificial Intelligence into our teaching, and learning, and administrative processes – this will

involve developing a whole school AI strategy, deploying the latest developments of this evolving technology, training staff, and integrating

AI into the curriculum;

• Track training needs for all teaching and non-teaching staff in all aspects of Digital Learning, ICT and Computing, liaising with the Senior Leadership Team as required;

• Identify and utilise existing expertise amongst proficient users;

• Safeguard pupils through the effective management of school online safety, mobile devices and digital safeguarding, working with the Designated Safeguarding Lead on all digital safeguarding matters;

• Lead on ICT compliance, reviewing and updating the School’s online and ICT policies, Acceptable Use Policy and other ICT related policies,

ensuring that all policies are effective for staff and pupils, and implementing the latest IAPS statutory requirements;

• To liaise with and support other departments, including Special Needs, concerning their use of computers in order to enhance the curriculum;

• To prepare and review the computer syllabus, based on the IT National

• To be responsible for ordering new and appropriate software, hardware and computer publications, plus other consumables required in the Computer Rooms;

• To keep abreast of and be familiar with new innovations in educational computing;

• To evaluate and amend as necessary work carried out in this department;

• To encourage, enthuse and set high standards in the use of computers;

• To control and monitor a budget as advised by the Finance Department;

• To give support and training to colleagues in their use of computers and technology.

Key tasks associated with the post:

• Lead the teaching of Computing by example, modeling best practice in all aspects of classroom delivery, assessing pupil outcomes and progress, and implementing interventions whenever necessary;

• Plan work for each class in accordance with relevant curriculum policies and in cooperation with the Heads of Department group to ensure that pupils experience a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum, relevant to the age group being taught;

• Ensure Computing lessons are outstanding with pace, variety, differentiation and challenge for all;

• Ensure that the learning experience matches the individual needs of the pupils in your class, giving each child the opportunity to achieve to the best of their ability;

To make appropriate educational provision for pupils with learning difficulties and for those pupils with EAL, with support from The Banda’s Learning Development Centre;

• Embrace new developments within the teaching of Computing, planning and implementing an exciting, engaging and contemporary curriculum, with an engaging balance between knowledge and skills;

• Manage and implement a seamless and dynamic curriculum throughout the School, ensuring continuity of teaching and learning;

• Lead the teaching of online safety, working with the Head of PSHE, to ensure an effective online safety programme through the School;

• Manage a programme to extend and develop those identified as most able in Computing, tracking progress towards potential scholarships to the next schools;

• Be proactive in arranging subject-specific trips;

• Attend Heads of Department Meetings, prepare departmental meetings and pass on appropriate minutes to the Deputy Head (Academic);

• Contact and meet with other Heads of Departments in the other independent schools and IAPS Schools;

• Liaise with parents concerning pupils’ progress and attend Parent Teacher Meetings to discuss progress and targets;

• Writing of detailed reports on each pupil when required;

• Be responsible for display work in the Computer Rooms and elsewhere in the school as required;

• Run a Co-Curricular Programme activity once a week and to assist in co-curricular events when required;

• Follow and implement school policies and procedures;

• Perform duties, as requested by the Headmaster, for supervising the pupils outside the classroom (e.g. lunch/break);

• To cover for any colleague who cannot attend school for any reason and to provide cover work for colleagues when absent from school;

• Attend regular staff meetings and INSET sessions before, during and after school hours, when required;

• Be committed to the school’s CPD programme;

• To maintain professional levels of conduct and uphold the school’s dress code.

• In addition to the above, a Subject Teacher in the Upper School may also be a Form Tutor in charge of a class and be required to perform all

of the associated duties.

The Person

• Possess a degree or equivalent teaching qualification;

• Have experience of working in British Curriculum Schools;

• Possess the desire to be fully involved in all aspects of life in a leading preparatory school;

• Be able to build good relationships with pupils and parents;

• Be a good communicator with adults and children;

• Show good organisational skills;

• Show a competent level of written English;

• Present a clean Certificate of Good Conduct or International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC);

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupils;

• Keep up to date with educational developments and be committed to continual personal and professional development
