About the position
The Alliance Climate Action team is looking for a motivated and high-performing Masters Intern to support climate security research. This internship opportunity provides a unique platform for individuals with expertise in social sciences.
Key duties & responsibilities
Conduct research in social sciences with a focus on environmental issues and climate change.
Support the partner identification, outreach, and engagement process to ensure the climate security agenda is taken up by local, subnational, and national agencies/platforms/organizations in East Africa.
Contribute to the design and implementation of high-quality qualitative research on climate change, resilience, conflict, displacement, security, peacebuilding and gender in East Africa.
Assist in managing and coordinating projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project objectives.
Plan and organize workshops, conferences, and events related to social and environmental initiatives.
Provide administrative support for various tasks, including documentation, reporting, and communication.
Contribute to the writing of high-quality technical notes, project reports, and if of interest also peer- reviewed publications.
Support the development of Climate Security innovations such as proofing guidelines to make CGIAR and partners’ research and practice climate security sensitive.
Contribute to the development of a theoretical framework and related methodology to assess the peace potential of climate adaptation efforts.
Contribute to the qualitative analyses on gender and displacement in climate security hotspots and corridors to understand drivers and impacts at the destination.
Other tasks as assigned as relevant to expertise and ongoing or future projects.
Requirements
Currently pursuing or recently completed a master’s degree in social sciences, environmental Science, or a related field.
Substantive knowledge of issues relating to climate-related security risks, either more broadly or in-depth to a specific sub-area (e.g., peace and conflict, development, migration, or organizational responses).
Knowledge of gender, conflict and peace studies, gender and intersectional analysis, climate security and specific areas of expertise related to these fields.
Strong knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with a diverse team.
Previous experience with Peace building in regard to climate change is an added advantage.
