Does getting in an IUD actually hurt as bad as people say?

I’m currently on hormonal birth control which is really worsening my depression, and not to mention the tremendous weight gain from when I started it a year ago. I was looking into the cooper IUD, but I’ve heard horror stories of people who went into a false labor after getting one, among other things. I just want to hear feedback from anyone who has gotten an IUD before please!
