Do you crush cans after you finish your drink? Why?

I went to school in Michigan. I noticed the frats and the homeless population had a symbiotic relationship. The frats would throw tailgates with tons of beer cans. They would leave to go to football game and the homeless population would sweep in and get their cans. The homeless people made a few bucks, and the pledges got saved from cleaning up all the cans.
