Do you and your partner share household income, why or why not?

I’ll start, My girlfriend doesn’t work, but we treat my income as our income.

I decided to ask Reddit because I find it very odd that all of her family keeps their income separate from their partners, and honestly don’t understand why. You’re a couple, you are one entity in my mind.
