Job Purpose
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will oversee enterprise business operations and provide strategic leadership. The Managing Directors’ responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic plans and enterprise policies, maintaining open dialogue with stakeholders and driving organizational success. He/she will be required to advance the enterprise business strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
In addition to the above, the Managing Director will work under the direct supervision of the Board and will be responsible for the following:
Will be the Chief Executive and the accounting officer of the Enterprise;
Will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the Enterprise and shall have control over all personnel and activities of the Enterprise;
To provide coherent leadership of the enterprise, conveying and executing the vision, mission and strategic intent of the enterprise;
To oversee the preparation and implementation of the Enterprise’s strategic and annual work plans;
To oversee the development and implementation of the Enterprise’s policies in liaison with the Board and other relevant authorities;
To ensure compliance to all constitutional provisions, Acts of Parliament, statutory provisions, local and applicable international regulations;
To develop and recommend to the Board the enterprise’s annual operating budgets;
To monitor and control the enterprise’s performance and finances in accordance with the budgets approved by the Board of Directors;
To oversee the acquisition, maintenance and efficient utilization of the enterprise’s physical assets;
To coordinate the preparation of the business proposals and reports for the Board’s consideration and implement the decisions of the Board;
To champion innovation in product development and delivery;
To foster corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good governance in line with the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
To maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining and motivating employees;
To direct the execution of risk management policy and frame work that ensures the enterprise has adequate systems and processes of accountability, risk management, internal controls and business continuity;
To represent the enterprise in national and international forums and act as the enterprise’s principle spokesperson; and
To build a strong external relationships with other agencies supporting the enterprise’s business and the wider stakeholders, developing partnerships as appropriate to support effective service delivery and resource management.
Person Specifications
The successful candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, Law, Agriculture, Horticulture or equivalent from a recognized institution;
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, Law, Agriculture, Horticulture or equivalent from a recognized institution;
A professional qualification in a relevant field where applicable;
Be a member to a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable;
Possess a leadership/strategic management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
At least fifteen (15) years’ relevant work experience, five (5) of which must have been at a Senior Management position in a comparable public or private sector institution.
