Job Summary:

CARE Germany as a member of CARE International is leading a five-year consortium project (CBA-SCALE Southern Africa+) on community-based adaptation to climate change in Southern Africa, funded by the International Climate Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Advocacy Advisor (part-time 25%) to join our team in Southern Africa. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that the consortium’s advocacy work is consistent, strategic, and effective in promoting community-based adaptation to climate change.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the consortium’s advocacy work and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote community-based adaptation to climate change.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organisations and international organisations.
  • Represent the consortium in UNFCCC processes and other relevant international forums.
  • Provide guidance and support to consortium members on advocacy issues.
  • Monitor and analyse policy developments related to climate change adaptation.
  • Produce high quality reports, briefings and other advocacy materials.

    Requirements:

  • A university degree in a field relevant to advocacy.
  • At least five years of experience in advocacy work in UNFCCC processes, with a focus on climate change adaptation.
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge in the field of climate change adaptation, with a focus on community-based adaptation.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including policymakers, donors, and community members.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with experience of coordinating and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment, with a strong focus on coordination across a consortium of different organisations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
