University of Kisubi Accountant Jobs in Uganda
The primary responsibility of the Accountant shall be to prepare and examine financial records,
and to ensure that they are accurate, consistent with the University’s accounting policies and
regulations as well as compliant with the best national and international best practices as per
the established legal and regulatory frameworks.
He/she shall make sure that records are
prepared in time and that the University’s financial obligations are adhered to promptly.
Working in conjunction with the auditors, the Accountant shall perform overviews of the
financial operations of the University in order to ensure that it runs efficiently. He/she shall
also help and advise the University to create plans of action for its improved financial well-
being.
Duties and Responsibilities
Continuous checking of the bookkeeping and accounts posting to the General Ledger.
Preparing the university financial reports.
Guiding the different units of the University in the preparation of their respective annual
budgets
Providing Accounting Information for Auditing purposes.
Maintaining books of accounts, processing payments and keeping up-to-date records of account.
Examines the bank reconciliation statements.
Verifying that all accounting reports are adequately supported by relevant documentation.
Ascertaining that all accountability documents are adequately secured and stored safely.
Ensuring that proper internal controls are in place.
Making sure that the University Asset Register is updated and maintained.
Ensuring that statements and records comply with established laws and regulations
Making recommendations towards the realisation of best practice in the University’s
financial management as well as safeguarding its financial health
Suggesting ways to reduce costs, enhance revenues
Participate in the annual stock-taking
Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
Master’s Degree in the relevant field and a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business
Administration/Management or an equivalent degree from an institution of higher learning
recognized by NCHE.
At least level two of professional qualification such as ACCAor CPA,
At least three (3) years working experience as an Accountant in a reputable organisation,
preferably in an institution of higher learning
Demonstrate understanding of the legal and regulatory framework regarding taxes and
other financial obligations particularly with regard to educational institutions of higher
learning
Familiarity with best practices in accounting and setting precedents for financial health and
stability in not-for-profit organisations, particularly in institutions of higher learning
Proven experience in using automated accounting systems and diverse accounting packages
Excellent knowledge of Accounting Software packages
Outstanding organisational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
Good organisational, negotiation and engagement skills
