British High Commission in Tanzania Electrician Jobs

Main Purpose of Job:

The British High Commission in Dar es Salaam is seeking a self-starter, versatile and energetic person to join our Technical Works Group (TWG) Team as an Electrician. The TWG team is part of Estates Team responsible for the maintenance and building work for the High Commission’s Office and Residential properties.

We are looking for highly motivated individual who is committed to service delivery and working as part of a team. They will need to quickly familiarise themselves with the High Commission’s working practices and policies, but also find creative and pragmatic solutions to challenges. They will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and willing to learn.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To undertake the day to day maintenance and repair of building services installations, including lighting, power, replacement of lamps and fluorescent tubes, emergency lighting systems, energy conservation, heating controls, hot water systems and renewable systems.
  • To undertake as directed the planned preventative maintenance programme (PPM) related to Electrical Inspections, Electrical Testing, Emergency Lighting and Electrical Services in a wide variety of buildings and ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines, statutory acts and regulations.
  • To estimate and prepare requisition and recommend the acquisition of necessary materials to ensure that appropriate and satisfactory repairs and maintenance are carried out following best practice and Health and Safety at Work regulations.
  • To apply knowledge and skills to record and report on status and condition of fixtures and fittings. This is to enable appropriate information to be fed into reports including recommendations concerning future maintenance.
  • To be responsible for the safe use of a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the role to be undertaken.
  • To identify opportunities that will improve energy efficiency by identifying inefficient components or practices, contributing to environmental sustainability and potential cost savings.
  • To be ready to attend or participate in the delivery of Out of Hours call out service in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.
  • To participate in learning and development activities that develop personal effectiveness and assist in improving performance in the role.
  • To perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.

    Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Good practical knowledge of, Permit to Work Systems, Electricity at Work Act and Wiring Regulations.
  • Experience of working in occupied domestic properties.
  • Understanding of H&S as applied in the workplace.
  • Interdependencies of construction works and trades.
  • An understanding of administrative processes and systems.
  • Experience of working high demanding projects.
  • IT Literate.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload.

    Language requirements:

  • Language: English and Kiswahili
  • Level of language required: Good

    Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Having clean and valid driving licence.
  • Having basic knowledge on operation of power plants.
