Role Purpose
Responsible for the design and execution of Agronomic solutions/systems through field experimentation to enable the understanding and prediction of genetics by management interactions.
Responsible for the design and execution of a network of in-house and participatory managed Field-testing locations for the testing of Genotype × Environment × Management interactions.
Additionally, the role is responsible for continuous improvement and strategic initiative projects that transform the way row crop plant breeding research is conducted within the organization through the use of new advanced and often proprietary equipment and technologies, data analytics and testing design.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Coordinate and actively contribute to the timely planting, management, data collection and harvest operations of maize breeding technology & agronomic solutions trials in alignment with Breeding objectives.
Closely partner with the Solutions Development team to build aligned and efficient Plant Health Field-testing workflows for breeding pipeline phenotyping.
Regularly extract, analyze and interpret data to gain insights into network design that aligns with product concept needs.
Develop and maintain standard operation procedures for Solutions Development field trials and the calibration and maintenance of associated equipment and tools.
Maintain knowledge of technical advances in solutions/systems trial operations to increase the efficiency and quality of trial outputs and continuous improvement.
Responsible for training, supervision and development of all temporary or seasonal staff in Field-Testing agronomic solutions trials.
Train and document information as new technologies are deployed in the network.
Become process owner for all trial packaging activities through optimization of workflows associated with cutting edge trial preparation systems, while adhering to and defining all safety requirements.
Responsible for implementation and compliance of ESH procedures for safe operation of the Field-testing operations.
Collaborate closely to develop innovation projects and optimize testing strategies.
Actively participate and drive adherence to all ESH initiatives in the region to continually grow a strong safety culture within teams.
Travel up to 50% of the time particularly during peak seasons, to ensure data delivery for key product advancement deadlines and supervision of field activities.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
MS in Agronomy or related field with at least 3 years of agricultural research experience
Strong background in agronomy, field plot technique and plant phenotyping for genetic evaluation
Strong knowledge of Plant health as regards the field evaluation and characterization in both induced and opportunistic environments
Good working knowledge of statistics and experimental design
Computer proficiency (MS office), ability to work with large data sets.
Experience in coding software such as “R”, “Python”, etc is a plus.
Willingness to travel (50%) including overnight and trips up to one week
