Carlos RV Silva Filho, an attorney specialized in administrative and economic regulation law, has emerged as a leader in the field of waste management. With a career spanning over two decades, his journey began in 1999, dedicating himself to the complexities of waste management. His association with the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) started in 2005 when he became the national representative of Brazilian Association of Waste Management Companies (ABRELPE), ISWA’s national member in Brazil. Over the years, Carlos’ contributions to ISWA have been significant. He served as the Latin America regional development network representative from 2011 to 2014 and assumed the role of ISWA Vice-President from 2014 to 2020. 

In 2013, Filho founded the ISWA Young Professionals Group, showcasing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of waste management leaders. His leadership extends beyond ISWA, as he actively participated in projects addressing global waste management challenges. He played a key role in the Global Waste Management Outlook and the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Waste Outlook, developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). His dedication is evident in his involvement with the Coalition for the progressive Closure of Dumpsites in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

Passionate about promoting better waste management practices, Filho authored the book Solid Waste: What the Law Says and contributed numerous articles on the subject. His multidimensional approach combines legal expertise with a deep understanding of the economic and environmental aspects of waste management. As President of ISWA, he envisions a proactive role for the association in addressing global challenges. His presidency comes at a critical time, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable waste management practices worldwide.
