Purpose

By 2030, we aim to enable over 500,000 people living in poverty to transform their lives by improving their access to clean energy, empowering them to develop sustainable and resilient livelihoods, and mitigating the impact of climate change.
  • As the Community Mobilization Officer, you will support the project manager in the delivery of the Clean Energy for Improved Health llI (E4HIII) project implemented in Kajiado County. The project will improve community health through access to reliable and sustainable clean energy technology for 42,000 individuals from the catchment area of 12 health facilities in Kajiado County, Kenya. This will be achieved through equipping 12 facilities with solar powered energy systems and creating awareness of available health services The project will ensure sustainability of the systems installed by training representatives from the county government as well as the health facility personnel on operation and maintenance of the solar powered energy systems as well as advocating for resource allocation by the county government for the maintenance of the solar systems. The project builds on E4HI and E4HII project implemented by Renewable World in Kajiado in 2022/23 and 2023/24.
  • The Community Mobilizer will build relationships between RW, the health facilities and the community ensuring efficient delivery of the project interventions. In addition, He/she will play a key role in the implementation of Behaviour Change Communication activities at the community level to create awareness of health services available at the health facility. Working closely with the project manager, the position holder will operationalize community feedback mechanisms and gather feedback that will be used to improve program delivery.

    Responsibilities

    Community Mobilisation (85%)

  • Closely coordinate project activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in project delivery.
  • Mobilise community members to ensure community participation and involvement in project activities.
  • Ensure community participation includes the most vulnerable and marginalized groups (especially women, girls and people living with disabilities).
  • Identify and build relationships with relevant partners as a resource to support project implementation.
  • Supervise and facilitate any community-based trainings and activities by delivery partners.
  • Ensure community awareness about project priorities, strategies and approaches
  • Provide program support to develop work plans and activity timelines.
  • Serve as a focal person for effective communication between community groups /leaders/volunteers and RW and project partners.
  • Support the communities to strengthen/ build relationships with local partners, local authorities, and local leadership to ensure project sustainability and local needs and priorities are being met.

    Documentation, Reporting and Knowledge Sharing (10%)

  • Regular and consistent monitoring of project activities
  • Providing monthly reports of project progress to Project Manager, undertake regular community supervision and maintain effective community communication.
  • Support the Project Managers to deliver, document and report on project reviews.
  • Undertake project feedback collection and documentation of impact stories and case studies
  • Share and analyse community challenges and successes for lessons learned and best practices
  • Keep the Project Manager informed on any issues related to logistics in field level

    Wider RW Programming Support (5%)

    Support the wider work of RW in Kenya and globally, including using your technical expertise. You will:

  • Contribute to the design of new projects by being involved in design processes as well as contributing new project ideas.
  • Participate in meetings and events for RW staff across Kenya and globally.
  • Represent RW in appropriate forums, including technical working groups.
  • Represent RW’s values in a professional, honest, transparent, and positive way to build RW’s reputation and brand as an organisation committed to poverty reduction and collaboration.
  • Have flexibility to respond to and be accountable for other business as it arises.

    Person Specification

    Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Competencies

    Essential

  • Have a relevant degree in Community Development, Social Science or a related field
  • Have worked in community development for at least 2 years
  • Strong community mobilization and communication skills
  • Understanding of the communities within the Kajiado County
  • Ability to work in communities and quickly build relationships
  • Proven experience in the usage of computer and office software packages (MS Office etc.)
  • Experience of engaging external stakeholders and working with partners.
  • Able to communicate and write quality reports in English.
