Job Summary

The Boiler Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of boilers and related systems. This role requires in-depth technical expertise and a thorough understanding of mechanical systems, safety procedures, and regulatory standards. The Boiler Technician ensures that all boiler systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Installation and Setup:

  • Install and assemble new boilers and related equipment, including piping, fittings, and controls.
  • Calibrate and configure boiler systems and controls to meet operational specifications.
  • Conduct system start-ups and performance testing to ensure proper installation.

    Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Perform routine maintenance on boilers and ancillary equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, and perform repairs or replacements of defective components.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to troubleshoot and resolve operational problems.

    Inspection and Testing:

    li>Conduct regular inspections of boiler systems to identify wear, corrosion, leaks, and other potential issues.

  • Test system performance, including pressure, temperature, and efficiency, to ensure optimal operation.
  • Prepare and submit inspection reports and recommend corrective actions as needed.

    Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, guidelines, and protocols during all work activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations related to boiler operations and safety.
  • Maintain safety documentation and participate in safety training and drills.

    Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used.
  • Prepare detailed service reports and update system logs with findings and actions taken.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients regarding system status and service outcomes.

    Customer Service:

  • Provide high-quality customer service by addressing client concerns and explaining technical issues clearly.
  • Offer recommendations for system improvements, upgrades, or replacements based on system assessments.

    Emergency Response:

  • Respond to emergency service requests and perform urgent repairs to minimize system downtime.
  • Provide timely and effective solutions to restore normal operation in critical situations.

    Inventory and Supply Management:

  • Manage and monitor inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Order and replenish parts as needed to ensure availability and minimize service delays.

    Training and Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in boiler technology and industry best practices through ongoing training and certification.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

    Key Requirement Skills and Qualification

  • High school diploma in boiler and steam systems operations from a recognized approved boiler training institution.
  • 4+ years practical working experience in the boiler and steam systems operations
  • Practical working knowledge of various types of boilers and steam systems equipment.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Boiler Operator License, HVAC Certification) are highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams, schematics and blueprints
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and address complex issues.
  • Computer skills (Excel, word and internet/email writing).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with clients and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
