Job Description:
The Accountant is responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing accurate and timely financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role involves maintaining financial records, analysing financial data, and providing insights to support informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including transactions, invoices, and payments within the organisation’s accounting and bank systems.
• Reconcile and verify accuracy of financial records and resolve discrepancies.
• Participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate financial statements are produced.
• Prepare and post necessary adjusting and closing entries.
Bookkeeping:
• Record day-to-day financial transactions and ensure they are accurately reflected in the company’s books.
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial documents to ensure accuracy.
Financial Reporting:
• Support in the Preparation of financial statements such as income statements on a regular basis.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Assist in creating and maintaining budgets to help management plan and allocate resources effectively.
• Provide financial projections and forecasts based on historical data and market trends.
• Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas of improvement.
Tax Compliance:
• Prepare and file accurate VAT, WHT, PAYE and LST tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
• Stay up-to-date with tax laws and regulations to minimise tax liabilities and identify potential tax-saving opportunities.
Internal Controls:
• Implement and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
• Regularly review
financial processes to identify and mitigate potential risks.
Auditing:
• Assist external auditors in conducting financial audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Communication and Collaboration:
• Collaborate with other departments, including finance, operations, and management, to provide financial insights and support.
• Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is a plus.
• Previous experience in accounting or finance roles, with knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and tools (e.g., Zoho Books, Odoo, Excel).
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work with numerical data accurately and efficiently.
• Understanding of financial reporting and analysis.
• Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Time management skills to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
• Ethical and trustworthy behaviour with a commitment to confidentiality.
