Are arrogant narcissists secretly insecure or do they actually genuinely believe they are awesome and above everyone else? How so?

I think narcissists are like a double-edged sword. On one hand, they may be genuinely confident and secure in themselves and their abilities. On the other hand, they may be overcompensating for some underlying insecurities that they can’t quite shake. In either case, it’s best to just ignore them.
