I can justify it easy peasy.
Someone being malicious at a repair shop (or who has ahold of the machine in some other way) could replace this thing with a non-working one, not triggering the Lock Screen when a machine is shut and locking your screen is one of the biggest things you can do to prevent unauthorized access.
Dude sounds hysterical and I can’t take people seriously who instantly jump to the “Apple didn’t do X so they can force you to buy a new machine screeee!”.
