So I’m struggling to find any definitive answer on if the indicator LED is wired in series with camera or is it just the display on the phone lighting up a few pixels. From what I’ve read Macs are set up in this fashion but I cannot find any article stating this for iPhones, and when I look at the camera assembly’s on line I don’t see anything that appears to be an LED. To me I feel like it would make total sense for the cameras indicator light to be setup this way just a sure fire way that if the camera (or microphone for that matter) is running the user knows.
But let me also preface I do understand apple very tightly restricts apps from having access to things they shouldn’t (at least not without user given permission). So I would understand if they choose not to wire it into series and rely on hardware because of the software.
