Americans who have been to other countries, what is an infuriating misconception we have about that country?

Because I always love to answer my own questions, mine would be this. It’s more about the whole continent than the country, but it’s in the same spirit. When I was a child, I had to live in Zambia (a country in Africa) because of my dad’s job. Yes, it was cool, yes, they had water, yes, they had roads, yes, they could speak English, yes, there are cities, no, Africa is not a country, no, they do not ride zebras like horses, and no, {insert generic name}, that is not how genetics work. You can live in Africa without being black.
