Am I going nuts or is “women” dissappearing?

am-i-going-nuts-or-is-“women”-dissappearing?

Literally the word women. I’ve been noticing more and more on videos that I watch people say “woman” when referring to multiple women. At first I chalked it up to many people I watch online not having English as a first language. Fair enough. But then I noticed it increasing with people I know are native American English speakers. At this point I thought maybe my speakers aren’t great and I’m just not hearing it correctly.

Today I was watching a news cast in English from an American source and I distinctly heard “woman” when the subjects were certainly women (plural). So I got curious and Googled the word women. The first page yields plenty of results, but not what I would expect: the simple explanation that “women” is the plural form of the word “woman”.

I Googled men. After scrolling past all the hoopla about the movie titled Men it’s there clear as day, on the front page, the definition of men as the plural form of man just as expected.

Go see for yourself. I’m not making any speculations as to what’s going on but I find it very strange.
