UN Security Officer – National Host Country Liaison Jobs in Tanzania

Org. Setting and Reporting

  • This position is based in the Security and Safety Section of the Registry of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Arusha branch. The officer will be reporting to the Chief of Security and Safety Section.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Security Officer – National Host Country Liaison will perform the following duties:

  • Provide security for the IRMCT mission by performing tasks such as prisoner escort and monitoring, court security controls, premise access controls, screening, surveillance, incident and emergency response, report writing, control center operations, key management, weapons handling, communication equipment management, alarm monitoring, and handling confidential information. This role typically oversees a team of 3 to 6 staff in these areas

  • Act as duty shift coordinator of up to 3 – 6 Security Officers (Individual Contractors), overseeing building or court security operations. Continuously review and assess security measures to mitigate risks and take immediate action during emergencies. Provide recommendations for improving security policies and regulations based on operational assessments.

  • Deliver armed close protection for IRMCT VIPs during official missions and external VIPs and dignitaries visiting the IRMCT.

  • Liaise on IRMCT Security and Safety Section (SSS) requirements, with a focus on situational awareness, threat and vulnerability analysis, and the protection of IRMCT personnel, premises, and operations. This includes developing communication strategies with local populations and other key audiences to raise awareness of United Nations mandates and activities.

  • Maintain consistent and reliable information exchange with Host Country counterparts, strengthening the IRMCT SSS’s relationships with local security agencies, particularly in law enforcement and immigration departments.

  • Ensure accountability for all equipment assigned to the operational area, reporting any malfunctions, losses, or breakages in a timely manner.

  • Staff assigned to specialized roles, such as Training, Fire & Safety, Pass & ID and Security Host Country National Liaison will be responsible for their specific area of specialization at the G4 level.

    Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Qualifications/Special Skills

  • A valid driver’s license category B is desirable.

  • Proof of firearms (pistol) qualification is desirable.

  • Proof of completion of UNDSS Induction Certification Training and the latest UNDSS weapons certification is desirable.

  • Current certification in control center operations (CCTV, 24-hour communications and alarm center) is desirable.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience related to Police/Military/Immigration/Security is required.

  • The minimum three (3) years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) year for candidates who possess a first level university degree or higher.

  • Experience in liaison and coordination with the host country authorities on national or international level is required.

  • Experience with UN International Criminal Tribunals is desirable.
