Organisation Background:
Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.
INSO provides daily support to more than 1000 NGOs operating in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries.
INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.
Sudan Analysis and support team – hosted by INSO Kenya.
INSO Kenya was founded as a standard NGO safety platform in 2012. In 2018, it transformed into the monitoring mission now integrated into INSO’s Horn of Africa program.
INSO is currently upscaling its services in Sudan. The Sudan analysis and support team based in Nairobi will assist NGOs working in the volatile Sudan context with reports, analysis, and advice. The support team includes all the reporting and analysis departments, as well as the support team (finance, logistics, Human resources), and will coordinate closely with NGOs and safety managers in the field.
Working for INSO support team to Sudan will allow you to experience this complex environment while you support humanitarian efforts to address the challenges Sudan faces.
We are now hiring an Information Officer. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Reporting to the Information Manager, you will be responsible for a complete understanding of all Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC) data entry, capabilities, storage, and security. He/she is also an expert of the CHDC and the Partner’s Portal (IPP) and can facilitate partner registrations. The IO also provides technical support for creating visualizations and dashboards.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC)
Be an expert user of CHDC and understand the methodology with knowledge of the platform.
Ensure that the information recorded is correctly categorized, promptly updated, and properly accessed.
Monitor, assess, and continuously improve the accuracy and precision of data collected.
INSO Partners Portal (IPP)
Be an expert user of the IPP and understand the registration process.
Guide the partners through the registration process and provide solutions to questions about the system.
Monitor and update the registration of INSO partners through the IPP.
Visualization activities
Fill information needs and sources in collaboration with the Safety Advisors and Operations team.
Aggregate data for analysis and presentation
When needed, produce high-quality maps, graphs, and other products to support INSO’s analysis and facilitate NGOs’ understanding of the conflict.
Provide visual-relevant inputs to field missions intended to gather data for INSO outputs.
Technical Reference
Actively work with Program, Operations, and Training departments to understand and respond to their needs.
Train Safety Advisors (and Assistants) or any other position on data-entry responsibilities and data integrity
Manage and regularly update SharePoint folders with relevant materials.
Gather materials for advertising INSO services under the guidance of the corresponding departments.
Position Requirements
Essential:
University degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, GIS, or relevant field
Fluency in English (and preferably French) language, both written and verbal
2 or more years of experience in data management and visualization, in a similar humanitarian organization and context
Experience with Power BI and DAX, or similar BI software (such as Tableau)
Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to management of information in crises contexts.
Nice to Have:
Knowledge of database management using SQL
Knowledge in scripting languages such as Python or R
Experience with ArcGIS and strong technical skills including creating topologically correct shapefiles and geodatabases.
Prior knowledge of relevant region context is an asset, working experience in this region a plus.
Working experience with humanitarian organizations, particularly with NGOs
