APHRC Quantitative Field Interviewer, DaYTA Project – Nandi Jobs in Kenya
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. We engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings and influence policy decisions to improve the quality of life in Africa.
The APHRC invites applications for Quantitative Field Interviewers in its Primary Research for the Data on Youth and Tobacco in Africa (DaYTA) Project. This is a nationally representative household survey that aims to collect data on tobacco use among adolescents aged 10 to 17 years to fill key evidence gaps and complement existing data in Kenya. We seek to recruit highly qualified and experienced field interviewers to support data collection activities across the selected 16 counties which include: Kilifi, Mombasa, Garissa, Marsabit, Meru, Kitui, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Turkana, Trans-Nzoia, Nandi, Laikipia, Busia, Migori, Nyamira and Nairobi.
Duties and responsibilities
Identify the selected enumeration areas.
Locate household structures in study enumeration areas and performing a household listing.
Obtain and document informed consent from study participants prior to data collection.
Conduct all study surveys.
Edit and submit data for completed interviews for daily cross-checking and verification by the designated team leader.
Attend all scheduled training sessions and progress meetings.
Ensure that data integrity is always maintained while minimizing errors in data gathering and transmission.
Ensure the safety and responsible handling of all study tools and equipment provided for the interviews.
Communicate promptly challenges and issues arising from the field to the team leaders and research team.
Timely completion of scheduled daily activities filing reports of work done.
Assist the research team in other project-related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C Plain.
Fluency in Kiswahili and English, both written and oral.
Experience in data collection using electronic data collection platforms such as survey CTO or Open Data Kit (ODK).
Strong interpersonal and communication (spoken and written) skills.
Proven past working experience on quantitative research projects including nation-wide household surveys.
Must be a current resident of one of the selected 16 counties.
Ability to adhere to protocols and guidelines for data collection.
Be available to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.
The candidates should be:
Prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the data collection.
Flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimal supervision.
