Umma University Computer Lab Technician Jobs in Kenya
Job Description:
We are looking for a proactive and technically proficient Computer Lab Technician to contribute to the optimal functioning of our computer labs. As a key member of our technical support team, the successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the lab environment, providing technical assistance, and ensuring a seamless computing experience for students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities:
Lab Maintenance:
Regularly inspect and maintain computer hardware, ensuring all systems are in optimal working condition.
Coordinate with vendors for equipment repairs and replacements as needed.
Keep abreast of emerging technologies to suggest and implement upgrades for enhanced lab performance.
Technical Support:
Respond promptly to technical issues reported by lab users, troubleshoot problems, and offer effective solutions.
Collaborate with other IT professionals to resolve complex technical challenges.
Provide after-hours support during peak usage times or special events.
Equipment Setup:
Install, configure, and deploy computer systems, servers, and peripherals according to established protocols.
Conduct routine checks to ensure all lab equipment is up-to-date with software patches and updates.
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, escalating problems when necessary.
Maintain an organized system for tracking and resolving technical support tickets.
Security Measures:
Implement and monitor security measures, including antivirus software and firewalls, to safeguard lab systems and data.
Conduct regular security audits to identify vulnerabilities and propose solutions.
User Training:
Conduct training sessions for lab users on the proper use of hardware, software applications, and adherence to lab policies.
Develop instructional materials and guides to assist users in maximizing the lab resources.
Inventory Management:
Keep an accurate inventory of lab equipment, software licenses, and peripherals.
Generate regular reports on inventory status and make recommendations for procurement or retirement.
Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for lab procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Ensure documentation is accessible to lab users and IT staff.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with IT staff, academic faculty, and administrators to understand and address the evolving technology needs of the institution.
Participate in planning and implementing technology-related projects.
Lab Upgrades:
Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in technology.
Recommend and implement upgrades to the lab infrastructure to enhance efficiency and user experience.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Computer Lab Technician or a similar role.
Strong knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking systems.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with cybersecurity practices and measures.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Prior experience in an educational setting is a plus.
