UN-HABITAT Research Consultant – World Cities Report Jobs in Kenya
Organizational Setting:
UN-Habitat is the United Nations programme working towards a better urban future. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. The adoption of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) and the Sustainable Development Goals, which includes the urban goal (SDG 11) – to make cities and human settlements safe, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable, firmly place urbanization at the forefront of international development policy.
This consultancy is based in the Global Report and Trends Unit (GRTU). A major activity of this Unit is the monitoring and reporting on urban conditions and trends as a basis for the formulation and effective implementation of urban policies. The key vehicle through which this is achieved is the World Cities Report (WCR).
The WCR is the Flagship Report of UN-Habitat and is mandated by the General Assembly and the Governing Council of UN-Habitat. The WCR plays a key role in monitoring and reporting on urban conditions and trends, including progress towards the implementation and realization of the SDGs, the NUA, and other internationally agreed goals and targets relevant to sustainable urbanization— the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The WCR also synthesizes information and knowledge on the state of cities and human settlements with a view to strengthen the ability of key partners, stakeholders and governments at all levels to use such information to formulate effective urban policies.
