Position Summary:
The Education Advisor leads THESO’s initiative for South Sudan’s education system reform and transformation implementation and provides oversight of THESO’s Education-focused activities. In this capacity, s/he provides programmatic leadership and technical oversight in the design and implementation of THESO’s Education activities and works closely with the technical team, partners, and advisors to provide guidance, coordination, and quality control of technical outputs.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position reports to the Program Director. The position will create and supervise a team of 5-8 staff members depending on needs, including staff who will be embedded at the National Ministry of Education.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities: – Serve as a focal point for THESO’s reform and transformation of the national education system, and core curricula at all levels of education: early childhood, pre-primary, basic (primary + lower secondary), and upper secondary. As a result, the core curricula will form a coherent line throughout the entire education system.
The reforms and transformation aim to build on the strengths of the South Sudanese education system and, at the same time, to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and complex world. There are issues connected especially with the meaningfulness of learning, the engagement and well-being of students as well as
with educational equality, for which new approaches are to be developed.
The leading principle in South Sudanese educational thinking is that equal and high-quality education is the best way to respect children and childhood and to build a sustainable future for both individuals and the whole country.
The purpose of education is to promote life-long and life-wide learning, holistic development, and well-being of all learners, as well as to improve their skills for living sustainably. THESO remains focused on technical assistance to the Ministry which is focused on our vision of improving the education system to ensure improved quality human capital development outcomes.
