Purpose:
Responsible for compiling and posting general ledger information and summaries for various financial transactions, maintenance of accurate accounting records and preparation of financial statements and reports that comply with prescribed financial policies, standards, and taxation requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Check and verify expenditure before preparation of payment vouchers, cheques and remittance of payments.
Ensure payment vouchers and petty cash vouchers are properly supported.
Implement expenditure control procedures by ensuring that proper authorization for payments is strictly followed.
Ensure that budgetary allocations are not exceeded without justifiable cause.
Review bank reconciliations to ensure they are correct.
Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies if any.
Maintain Asset register to agree with ledger figures and financial statements.
Monitor account receivables and account payables.
Perform month-end closings including preparation of entries.
Preparation of monthly financial statements and other reports as required.
Prepare annual accounts for review by F&A manager and for audit purposes.
Provide financial statements supporting information, lead schedules, reconciliations, explanations, and other information that may be requested by auditors.
Assist in the preparation of operating budgets, monitor spending against budget and provide commentaries on variances.
Prepare quarterly risk assessment reports associated with company’s business and operations.
Deputize the Finance & Administration Manager in his/her absence.
Person Specifications
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting or business related field.
Professional Qualifications
Professional management qualifications such as Certified Public Accountants – CPA (K), ACCA, Certified Public Secretaries (CPS), or an equivalent professional qualification.
Member of ICPA (K) or relevant professional body.
Experience
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a busy finance department. Having worked in Insurance industry will be an added advantage.

Ability to communicate both inside and outside the organization.
Ability to prepare and interpret financial reports in accordance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS’s).
Attention to detail.
Analytical skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and to interact appropriately with others.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment.
Track record of reliable and consistent performance.
Tech savvy with high level skills in excel, word & PowerPoint presentations.
