Carter Center Behavior Change Communication Consultant Jobs in South Sudan
Background
The South Sudan Guinea Worm Eradication Program (SSGWEP), supported by The Carter Center (TCC), is seeking a consultant to support in updating its existing communication strategy “It Pays to Report Guinea Worm,” Information, Education and Communication (IEC)/Health Education materials, and develop/update associated training tools.
This position reports to the TCC South Sudan Senior Country Representative (SCR) and is under the overall supervision of the Director of the SSGWEP at the South Sudan Ministry of Health. This is anticipated to be a 2-3 month consultancy. The consultancy will primarily be based in Juba, South Sudan, with travel to Guinea worm endemic communities.
Role and Deliverables
Develop/update the SSGWEP communication strategy, ensuring localized messaging around Guinea worm disease eradication in South Sudan.
Produce, update, and contextually modify Guinea worm (GW) disease IEC materials to ensure the communication of appropriate messages to target audiences. This includes, but is not limited to GW: flipchart, ID, posters, video clips, jingles, songs, etc. These materials must be informative and motivational, and ensure cultural context is considered.
Work with the appropriate departments to identify any artists (graphic) and printers needed to update the materials. Ensure softcopies and versions are owned by the program. All materials produced must be owned by the program.
Develop a training manual for implementors/facilitators and update the communication engagement guide.
Conduct training for implementors/leadership and facilitate workshops as needed- (training of trainers, endorsement workshops).
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in communication arts, Public Relations, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Education, Public Health, or other relevant technical fields;
Demonstrated expertise and experience (at least 3-5 years) in communications, development, or related field;
Demonstrated skills in planning BCC (behavior change communication) strategy, implementation, and monitoring.
Proven capacities in strategic communications, community organizing, community-based participatory approaches, and stakeholder coordination.
Proven ability to develop and update IEC materials.
Demonstrated skills in planning and facilitating trainings.
Proven ability to produce high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines.
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
Computer skills in MS Office.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated capacity to lead and work effectively as a team.
Proven international work experience; work experience in South Sudan is desirable.
Good knowledge and familiarity with public health.
Fluency in English is required, additional languages are an asset.
