Uganda National Bureau of Standards Senior Transport Officer Jobs in Uganda
Reporting to Finance and Administration Manager and responsible for overseeing UNBS fleet, dispatching of Drivers, monitoring vehicle movement, ensuring timely and proper maintenance and repairs, tracking fuel usage and consumption rates.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organise and coordinate vehicle movements through proper supervision of all Drivers
Develop and implement guidelines and procedures for fleet management at the Bureau
Maintain proper inventory of all components of vehicles, and ensure they are maintained and
checked frequently.
Track repairs and costs as part of monitoring and overseeing the repair processes.
Prepare requisitions for servicing, repair and maintenance at the appropriate garages.
Assess and analyze the quotations submitted by Garages inclusive of service, repairs, battery, seat cover and tyre replacement among others to ensure value for money.
Propose improvements in the existing fleet and transport processes, systems and tools.
Give input into proposed vehicle procurements by determining suitable and appropriate vehicle
specs to meet Bureau transport needs
Track vehicle and fuel usage and consumption rates; ensure that potential problems or fuel misuse is raised to management.
Track vehicle registration and insurance and liaise with procurement to ensure these are always
renewed in a timely manner.
Check and analyse UNBS vehicle logs information weekly, make corrections where necessary and sign off in each log to verify that this has been done.
Periodically collect vehicle logs from the field and review them for accuracy and follow up on field transport operations.
Collect daily and weekly vehicle checklists, verify their accuracy, and work with drivers to correct any problems.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Honors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile engineering or Transport and Logistics
Management from a recognized University/Institution
Business Management and Economics qualifications but with additional training in Transport/ Fleet Management and Logistics
Membership to Uganda Institute of professional Engineers (UIPE) is added advantage
At least 5 years of direct motor vehicle transport operations and management in a reputable
Institution having at least ten (10) vehicles
Ability to assess potential mechanical problems and advise on preventive maintenance and repair procedures
Should possess a valid vehicle-driving license.
