Chemonics Human Resources Assistant – Pretoria Jobs in South Africa
Chemonics seeks a Human Resources Assistant for the Power Africa Empower Southern Africa (ESA) Program funded by USAID. ESA is a 5-year regional program that covers South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Madagascar, Comoros and Sao Tome and Principe. The primary purpose of ESA is to increase the availability of, access to, and use of affordable, reliable, sustainable and clean energy in Southern Africa in order to reach measurable development outcomes.
Measurable development outcomes include economic growth, reducing poverty, improving livelihoods, and increasing inclusive access to electricity-enabled services in such areas as health, education, sanitation, and food security. This position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people and communities around the world.
Responsibilities include:
Assist in maintaining confidential personnel files for all local staff in electronic and hard-copy format in compliance with the applicable local laws and the project’s policy manual
Update the project personnel tracker as directed by
Under the guidance of the Operations and Security Manager, identify recruiting needs, prepare recruitment documents, schedule interviews, release recruitment ads, and collect required documentation from candidates
Draft employment agreements, biodatas and support the onboarding of project staff
Ensure new hires are provided with adequate training regarding the project and relevant Chemonics policies in order to perform the job to the best of their ability and are assimilated into Chemonics culture.
Collect employee timesheets and ensure required supporting documentation is attached and maintained in both hard copy and electronic format in the project’s human resources files
Track employee leave balances in the project’s leave tracker and communicates leave balances to staff and senior management as required
Assist the Operations and Security Manager to coordinate and manage the performance evaluation process for all project sraff
Assist the Operations team to ensure project compliance with local labor laws by assisting with regular audits and staying updated on local labor laws and human resources best practices
Other duties as assigned by the Operations and Security Manager
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
A minimum of at least two years of experience in operations, human resources management, and/or relevant work experience
Knowledgeable of South African labor laws, personnel benefits, and taxes required; ability to interpret local labor laws, previous experience interacting with labor counsel preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to prioritize multiple work assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment, to meet deadlines, and to exercise good, strong professional judgment
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required
Ability to exercise confidentiality and high level of professionalism
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with command of another regional language a plus
